And more stuff

So, trust us to put our house on the market the very week an article comes out in the PI about the real estate market hitting its lowest point in the last twenty years. For some reason that totally doesn't bother me -- it's probably the four chocolate chip cookies I've had (made specially for me by one of our faculty people).  But it could be my natural fluffypagan bouncy denial of everyone else's reality and the belief that there's nothing that a good goat sacrifice and some naked dancing won't cure.  (Not that I sacrifice goats, but I could.  Ritual animal sacrifice has been constitutionally protected for at least a decade now).

Kevin also sent me a link to the Irvine Housing Blog, which has been "chronicling the seventh circle of real estate hell since September of 2006.  Reading it is depressing if you believe in the reality of economic analysis, but worth a few chuckles here and there.  For example, when "IrvineRenter" notes that one couple now list their house at more than 100,000 off of the price they bought it at in 2004, he quotes the lyrics from "Stairway to Heaven," noting that buying this property (located on Stepping Stone Ave) seems to be leading the owners closer to Hades than to Heaven.

Bleh to the market, I say.  Bleh.  I defy you market.  I shake my fist merrily in your face.  I speak in an outrageous french accent.  I spit on you.  I fart in your general direction.

WIthout the least desire to dampen your fluffybunny pagandom...we put our house on the market Last July. It is Still On The Market. We have had exactly two people come look at it in that time. We are in a nice area, our house is large with wood and tile floors, big rooms, a decent yard -- but we are in one of the areas hardest hit by both over-development and the sub prime mortgage debacle. We are surrounded by brand new houses they can't unload and foreclosure houses going for next to nothing. Oh, and we are a high transition area, too, so there are always a lot of houses for sale around here.

Which is why I am here and my husband is two states away. *sigh* I'm not a goat sacrificer (I get squeamish cutting kitty toenails, because of that 'call the ASPCA! Call PETA!" noise they make, the fuzzy whiners). We've done everything we can think to do. Hell, we even buried one of those plastic saints out front (the agent gave it to us). Nada so far. Second price drop now. Looking at renting it.

I've been trying to substitute my reality for the reality I'm rejecting for a good while now. Usually it works. Not this time. SOMEONE BUY MY HOUSE DAMMIT!

[info]jeffwaddell: interesting

houses available but not available...it's a wierd world out there....how many thousand people can't get into housing of any kind while those that are trying to get out can't do that either.

If you are willing to consider a rent to own...I might be able to help either of you out...stress on the *might*.

Thanks Jeff, but our interest in selling the house (or mine anyway) is in getting cash out of it. I'd like to have the cash to help set myself up in an apartment and pay off some of my debt & help fund grad school. If we can't turn it around, we'll probably hang onto it and we'll rent it out to cover the mortgage until the market is better.

"animal sacrifice has been constitutionally protected for at least a decade now" - have you, perchance, a citation for that? ordinarily, i'd say "really?", but i'm trying to break myself of the habit; it's vapid.

I think not.

1 out of 365 isn't so terribly improbable, in the end.

Do you have an agent for if (when?) you list? I know a few and would be happy to recommend one, if you need one.
